JOYCE LEE SLATER WILLIAMS, BORN ON JUNE 18, 1935 IN SUNNY SOUTH, ALABAMA, WAS THE OLDEST OF FOUR CHILDREN BORN TO THE LATE RAINEY D AND RHODA J (SMITH) SLATER (ALEXANDER).
ALSO PRECEDING HER IN DEATH IS HER BELOVED DAUGHTER, CHERYL RHONDA WILLIAMS. AND HER BROTHER JAMES SLATER.
JOYCE DEPARTED THIS LIFE ON APRIL 2, 2020, WHEN HER FORTASTE OF GLORY DIVINE THROUGH FAITH IN JESUS CHRIST, BECAME A HEAVENLY REALITY.
THE FAMILY RELOCATED TO PHILADELPHIA IN 1939, WHERE SHE RECEIVED HER INITIAL EDUCATION THROUGH THE PHILADELPHIA SCHOOL SYSTEM, GRADUATING FROM SIMON GRATZ HIGH SCHOOL. HAVING A THIRST FOR KNOWLEDGE, JOYCE CONTINUED HER EDUCATION AND THROUGH HARD WORK AND DETERMINATION AND VARIOUS CERTIFICATES OF ACCOMPLISHMENT IN BETWEEN, SHE ULTIMATELY ACQUIRED HER MASTER OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATIONAL SUPERVISION AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT.
JOYCE'S MULTITALENTED ABILITY AS AN ARTIST, WRITER AND POET COMPLIMENTED HER TEACHING SKILLS IN THE CLASSROOM. SHE WAS ABLE TO RELATE TO HER STUDENTS IN PRACTICAL DEMONSTRATIONS. (WITH AN INGENIOUS PORTABLE PUPPETS STAGE, PUPPETS AND SCRIPT OF HER DESIGN). ADDITIONALLY, HER CULINARY SKILLS ENABLED JOYCE TO PREPARE NUTRITIOUS AND VERY TASTY MEALS OFTEN ENJOYED AT FAMILY FUNCTIONS.
AS A BORN-AGAIN BELIEVER, SHE WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH GLASSBORO. JOYCE SERVED ON MANY MINISTRY’S THROUGH THE YEARS.
JOYCE WAS ALSO BLESSED TO BE ABLE TO VISIT THE CONTINENT OF HER ANCESTERS WHEN SHE JOURNEYED TO COUNTRIES IN AFRICA MULTIPLE TIMES TO DISCUSS EDUCATION AND THE FUTURE OF OUR YOUNG PEOPLE THERE. SHE MADE FRIENDS AND WAS WELL LIKED BY HER HOSTS
JOYCE LIVED A MEANINGFUL, JOYFUL AND FULFILLING LIFE AND PASSED PEACEFULLY AND PAINLESSLY.
LEFT TO CHERISH HER MEMORY ARE HER SONS: MARK WILLIAMS (VICTORIA) OF
CARNEYS POINT, NJ; TED WILLIAMS (SHLONDA), OF ASTORIA, NY;
GRANDCHILDREN, BAILEY, MARK JR. AND TAMIKA. GREAT GRANDS, MARK WILLIAMS III, ALEAH, ARYELLE, CERRINETY AND SCARLETT. SISTER, LUCY GARNER (FREDDY) AND BROTHER CHARLES SLATER ( GLORIA). SHE WILL ALSO BE MISSED BY THE SCORES OF PEOPLE WHOSE LIVES WERE TOUCHED BY HER KIND HEART AND OPTIMISM FOR THE FUTURE.
