Obituary of Lloyd B. McKenzie

Please share a memory of Lloyd to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Lloyd "Dave" Barrington McKenzie was born to Una Roseline Walters on July 25, 1936 in Saint Andrew, Jamaica.  He was the second of three children.

When he was a young child, he alone moved to England with relatives.  He was educated and at an early age, he became his own boss at the age of 15 driving his own Lorry.

Lloyd moved to the United States and became an American Citizen.  He worked many jobs until he found his interest once again as a truck driver at a company called Vi- Concrete.  Eventually, he invested in himself and he purchased two tractor trailers where he leased them to community companies.

Lloyd was a man of many diverse talents and skills.  He was a member of the Florence Hunting club, as well as, an avid fisherman.  He enjoyed many days of fishing off the Florida Keys.  He was believed to be first to operate a Jamaica restaurant in the township of Winslow.

In 1995, Lloyd was a devoted man of his family for 37 years.  He was proud of his wife, children and grandchildren.  Due to Lloyd limitations many family functions were in the backyard.  It was important to him that he stayed in touch with family as much as he often could.   As time went on, he developed a love of gardening because he had to spend a lot of time in a wheelchair.  He grew tomatoes, okra, collard green and corn, just to name a few.  His produce was shared with his neighbors.

Lloyd was a highly respected man in his community.  He served as Lieutenant before he worked his way to Fire Chief of Fire Station 255.

In his community, Lloyd was known as Mr. Dave, a man’s man.  The women of the community always referred to him as a gentleman.  Many times, it was said when a child had a question one would say to the other let’s ask Mr. Dave, he had a word for them too.

Preceded in death is his son Kevin.  Left to cherish his memory his beloved wife Diane, two sons James Gregory, James Christopher.  Three daughters Lorraine, Desiree and Una.  A brother and sister, Ken and Beverly.  He has ten grandchildren Yosheema, Liam, Marie, Brianna, Cintia. Cejai, Olivia, Joshua, Shyanna, and Ava, three great grandchildren.  Four God children Tristian, Tracie, Eric and Kasen, a special nephew Ulysses and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
