James Turkvan was born in Saint Matthews, South Carolina to the proud parents of the late James and Elise "Mother Hayne" Turkvan on December 2, 1922.  James was the oldest of 4 siblings all deceased: Lethean, Allen, Bill Isaac and Morris.

At the age of 19, James enlisted in the 2133rd United States Army Airforce on July 7, 1942 and received an honorable discharge on November 20, 1945 as a Sergeant.  James served as the Projectionist Motion Picture Operator for the prestige Tuskegee Airmen.  He was honored and received medals for: American Theater Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal AR 600-68/45, and World War II Victory Campaign Medal 326.  In 1950, James moved to Newark, NJ and in 1986, he married Dorothy Wilson from that union was born Kelly G. Sr.

James worked for Midtown Meat House in Newark, NJ for 30 years and retired in 1970.  James worked for Trump Plaza in Atlantic City, NJ for 18 years and retired in 2008.  James was a hard worker and always helped his children, family and friends with obtaining employment.

James leaves to mourn: James Jr. (deceased), Jerry (deceased), Lethean, Cleo, Alphonso, Steven (Deborah), Sheila, Beverly (Victor), Harold (deceased), Michael (deceased), Cheryl (deceased), Valerie (deceased), Sandy, Keith Robert (Robin) and Kelly Sr. (Deborah); 37 Grand children; 56 Great Grand Children and 9 Great Great Grand Children.
