Obituary of Elayne Ruby Jackson

Please share a memory of Elayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elayne Ruby Jackson was born February 7, 1935 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Christine Veney. On Wednesday, October 26, 2016, the Lord, in His magnificent wisdom, called home the soul of Elayne, as she was surrounded by family at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus, in Galloway, New Jersey. Elayne attended the Atlantic City public schools, Holy Spirit High School, Virginia State College and Glassboro State College (now Rowan University). In 1956, she married Wilbert Jackson and from that union three children were born: Gregory, Rodney "Rock", and Shari Jackson. She enjoyed traveling the United States, listening to smooth jazz, going to casinos, attending Ebony Fashion Fair shows and shopping at TJ Maxx. Her favorite television show was "Family Feud", hosted by Steve Harvey. Her past employment included teaching for Atlantic Human Resources and for the Pleasantville Board of Education. She taught at South Main Street School. Elayne was a member of the National Education Association, New Jersey Education Association, Pleasantville Education Association, Phi Delta Kappa Iota Chapter, and Club Quintessence. Elayne is predeceased by her mother, Christine Veney; her fathers, Stephen "Rocky" Simmons and Earl Vincent Veney; her sons, Gregory and Rodney; and her sisters, Joyce Ann Floyd and Roxie Sinkler. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her loving daughter and caretaker, Shari Jackson; one sister, Michelle Simmons; three brothers, Royce Veney, Wynder (Linda) Simmons, and Dwayne (Sherrell) Simmons; special mother, Beatrice Simmons; seven grandchildren, Shurlana Stewart, Talia Jackson, Ra'Shea Arrington, Ameba Jackson, Nathaniel Carter, Christa (Billy) Young and Jaslynn (Roy) Ragland; six great grandchildren, Samirah, Jamil, Cea'anai, Niyla, A'dyn and Enoch; two special cousins, Rambo Watkins and Morgan Adams; three special daughters, Detra Lowe, Karla Wimpish and Gay Little; five special friends, Grace Burch, Ruby Hillmon, Gertrude Walker, Jean Ann Washington and Flora Parker; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
