Elizabeth Wanzer, the 2nd oldest daughter of eleven children born to the late James P. and Marie Covington, was born in Philadelphia, Pa, on January 7, 1935, the family moved to 110 Titgen Avenue, West Atco, New Jersey. Elizabeth, who was more affectionately known as Lizzie, attended the Lower Camden County Regional School District graduating from Overbrook Regional High School. As a student, Lizzie excelled in her studies majoring in Business Administration. Lizzie also excelled in sports, participating in field hockey and basketball. In 1948, Lizzie married the late Leon Wanzer and from this union there are ten (10) children. In her adult life, Lizzie was concerned about the educational welfare of the youth in the community. This prompted her to join several community youth organizations where she was able to use her secretarial skills. The community organizations worked on getting scholarships for the local college students. Lizzie was a lifetime member of the New St. John C.M.E. Church where her parents were among the founders. As the matriarch of her four (4) generation family unit, Lizzie made sure her children attended Sunday school and worship services every Sunday. In her personal Christian walk, Lizzie served as a member of the Trustee Board and on the Building Fund Committee. Lizzie's proudest moments were spent raising her children and witnessing their accomplishments. She would often say... "God has been good to me. I have never had to visit a child of mine at the grave or in jail." Having completed the work that God assigned to her, she was called to eternal rest on a brisk Tuesday morning, March 26, 2013 at 11:30am.
