Elisha Washington was born to the late Charlie and Mary M. Washington on February 12, 1939 in Fort Gaines, Georgia. He was one of thirteen children; six preceded him in passing. Elisha had an identical twin brother, Elijah Washington. Elisha was better known as "Babe" or "Baldie" by family and friends. As a child, he joined Indian Mills United Methodist Church . He also attended Green Grove Baptist Church as a child. He attended elementary school in Georgia as well as in Indian Mills, NJ. He and his family moved to Berlin, New Jersey in 1955 after the passing of his father. He then attended high school for two years at Lower Camden County Regional. Elisha stopped going to school to work to help take care of the family. His work included working on farms and construction jobs for many years. He also worked for Berlin and Winslow Townships; Atco Fence Company and Clementon Park. Elisha loved to go fishing with his family and friends. He also loved to play pool; cards and bingo. He helped to raise a lot of children. He leaves to cherish his memory, four brothers, Esau, Willie, Albert and Louis; three sisters, Rebecca, Martha and Mary; his aunts, Annie Susie Jackson, Morene Langston, Roscel Brown, Bernice Brown and Carrie Brown; five nieces and four nephews; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Toomer-Washington and Marie Washington; five step nieces and nephews and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
