Obituary of Rachel Davis

Please share a memory of Rachel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rachel Austin Davis, daughter of the late Mr. Samuel and Maggie Maggaline Austin, was born in and raised in King Street, South Carolina. She met Samson Davis in 1940 and soon thereafter they were united in Holy Matrimony. To this union, nine children were born, William Austin, Daisy Robinson, Elijah Davis, Maggie Davis, Classell Davis, Rachel Hall, Sandra, Davis, Isiah Davis and Samson Davis. In 1945, Samson and Rachel relocated to Philadelphia, PA where she gained employment at Jefferson Hospital for over 25 years. In 1960, Samson and Rachel moved their family to New Jersey, where they settled down in the small town of West Atco. She had worked for 16 years at Trump Plaza Hotel and casino in the EVS Department and retired in 2001. She was great at making friends and enjoyed laughing and telling jokes to her kids. She enjoyed going to cookouts and meeting old time friends. She loved riding her scooter around town until she couldn't go anymore. She was a very strong woman in personality and strength. She knew she was going to see the Lord and would give her daughters a smile each time they would visit her at the hospital. This is what the Lord has laid on her daughter's heart to say: Genesis 2:1-3 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. Our mother left us on a Sunday which is the seventh day. She is resting on the seventh day and she is blessed on the seventh day and there's no more work because she is resting. She was preceded in death by four sons, William, Elijah, Isiah and Samson; her son-in-law, Elgie Robinson; her brothers and sisters, Rev. Tina Sampson, Mabell Williams, Fred Austin, Paul Austin and Prince Austin. Rachel is survived by her five daughters, Maggie-Mae Davis, Classell Davis (Bobby), Rachel Hall (David Jr.), Daisy Robinson and Sandra Davis; 25 grandchildren; 49 great grandchildren; 51 great great grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends.
