Bobbie Jean Davis Obituary

Bobbie Jean Davis was born June 24, 1933 to Mildred Taylor and Curtis Davis of Greenville, South Carolina. She departed this life peacefully on December 11, 2012 at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Stratford, New Jersey.

Born Irene Davis named by her mother, the midwife that delivered her named her Bobbie. Because of her small size as she grew older her nickname became Penny which she was referred to the rest of her time here on God's earth.

In June of 1951 Bobbie graduated from Sterling High School in Greenville, SC. Her husband Samuel J. Davis returned as a Sergeant from the U.S. Army to claim the love of his life. On January 17, 1953 they were married in Greenville, SC and traveled by train to begin a life in Philadelphia, PA. During this time Bobbie and Sam moved to West Philadelphia while beginning to raise a family of three daughters. She worked at Sears and Robuck as a counter clerk for several years. In 1968 Bobbie and Sam moved their family to Somerdale New Jersey where Bobbie began to actively participate with Bethany Baptist Church singing on the choir, Women's Day Committee and volunteering for various activities.

Bobbie was a very sweet loving caring unselfish giving and fun loving person. Her good nature and laughter always bought warmth and humor to all that was in her presence. As a person who believed in family, she was known as "Mom" to a vast majority of children in Somerdale and surrounding areas who are now adults that still refer to her as Mom.

Bobbie leaves to cherish her beloved children, Gail Edison, Ife Azikiwe (aka Beverly Davis), and Stacey Smith, 3 grandsons, Michael Davis, Akil Azikiwe, and Anthony Smith, 4 great grandchildren, Azlan Cobb, Rahmyynte Boyce, Amani Azikiwe and Jalen Davis and an extended family of cousins and friends.
