Oliver E. Cannon Obituary

Oliver E. Cannon affectionately known as “Uncle Buck” passed away on Saturday December 9th, 2023, after a brief illness. Buck was born on January 15, 1925, to Martha Cannon in Mason Ville, NJ where he was raised and educated.


Oliver joined the United States Army in 1943. Buck was a proud veteran of WWII Where he received the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945. Upon leaving the army Buck started his career as a truck driver.


On February 19, 1951, he married his childhood friend Naomi Still. He was a very devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great grandfather. In his younger years he was baptized and a member of St. Paul Baptist church in Cinnaminson NJ. Buck could often be found lending a helping hand with repairs at Jacobs Chapel AME Church in Mt. Laurel, NJ.


Buck enjoyed music especially the blues and jazz. He loved having a good time, especially with his family. One of his favorite sayings was “Let it roll”.


Oliver touched many lives and will be remembered by all who knew him. He was proceeded in death by his wife Naomi, son Fredrick, sisters Lena Keen, Martha Raisin, Leona Fisher, Gladys Jackson, Bessie Robinson, Christine Christian, and Esther Rivers. Brothers Robert, Lee, and James Christian. Granddaughter Annette Custis and grandson Kenneth.


He leaves to cherish his memory, Sister, Della Woods, daughter in law Alice Curtis. Seven grandchildren Hope, Tina, Faith, April, Irene, Byron, and Darnell. Buck had 30 great grandchildren and 75 great-great grandchildren. Also, two very special nieces and caregivers Dr. Portia Johnson and Laura McBride, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
