Thomas Mixon, Sr Obituary

Thomas Mixon, Sr. was born November 7, 1944 in Gifford, SC to the late Robert Mixson and Dessie Mae Johnson. Thomas was predeceased by his brothers, Willie Johnson and James Mixon, his sisters, Lucille Mixson and Marlene Jackson.


Thomas and his siblings moved to Jersey City, NJ with their Mom, Dessie Mae. He was educated in the Jersey City school system. Thomas attended Community College and later on Divinity School to become an African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Pastor. Thomas worked at AT&T for 30 years in the Administration Department and traveled to different cities and states for AT&T. During his employment with AT&T, Thomas became an AME Pastor. He served under the AMC Conference for many years and retired in 2011. Thomas also sought the brotherhood of the Masonic Lodge. He was raised at King Solomon #19 of Jersey City on May 19, 1990 and he demitted to Stone Square Lodge #38 of Plainfield, NJ, June 14, 1993.


Thomas found the teachings of the Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad to be the truth of all humanity.


Thomas was married in 1970 and from that union, he became a father to three children, Thomas Jr., Monique and Tonya.


In 2006, Thomas married Ethel Harris. During their marriage they lived in Central Jersey, at which time Thomas became sick. They moved to South Jersey and Ethel cared for him until his untimely transition. Prior to becoming ill, he was pastoring at churches in South Jersey. He loved to travel, enjoyed sports and meditated on the word daily even when his eyesight was deteriorating.


Remaining to cherish his memory, is his wife Ethel, his children Thomas Mixon Jr., Monique Sanford and Tonya Mixon. His sister, Gloria Hawkins, sister-in-law, Eleanor Mixson, grandchildren, Saniya Griffin, Kayla Sanford, Kelsie Sanford, Zion Mixon, Christian Mixon and great grandson, Marcus Olius and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and the brotherhood of Masons and the Nation of Islam.
