Lawrence, better known as Larry, was born February 17, 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The proud son of James Yarborough and Clayvine Cooper. He attended Fredrick Douglas Elementary, Vaux Junior High and graduated from Edison High School.
In 1970, he met the love of his life Bernetta. They later had two lovely children, Clayvine and Lawrence Jr. Larry enjoyed cooking at an early age and continued to perfect this gift and became a chef. He enjoyed working at numerous restaurants as their chief chef, as well as catering. He participated in "The Real Men Cook" as a volunteer. Anytime you visited his home, he was always willing to prepare a delicious meal for you. In his youth, he enjoyed boxing, his all time favorite boxer was Muhammad Ali. He loved to dress amd wear his fancy hats and smell real good with his colognes. His favorite music group was the "Four Tops and you could always catch him listening to his oldies, and smooth jazz. During his spare time, he liked educational programs as well as his favorite movie, "Forrest Gump". He seranaded his grand and great grandchildren when they came to visit him. He sung his favorite song to them, "Bi Bi Bi Bi Bi Bi Bo". He loved his commuinty. He became the block captain of 29th Street. He also loved Philadelphia Sports Teams, mainly the Eagles.
In 1990, he accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and joined the fellowship of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He was a faithful member and served on the Morning Star Ministry; Kitchen Committee; Pennsylvania State Laymon and the Usher's Ministry.
Larry slipped away without saying goodbye, but left a lasting impression on all that loved and knew him. Larry leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife, Bernetta; one daughter, Clayvine Cooper-Patterson; one son, Lawrence Jr.; two step-daughters, Patricia and Cassandra; one stepson, William; one son-in-law, Mark Patterson; one sister, Patricia Cooper; twelve grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two special cousins, Beverly Kinsler and Sheryl Johynson and a host of other cousins, aunts, uncles, nephews, family and friends.
He will be truly missed!
