Obituary of Lorraine W. Spruill

Lorraine Wilnet Spruill (nee’ Coleman) was born September 15, 1934, in Philadelphia to the late Elsie Howard and William Maxwell. She heard the Lord calling her to her heavenly home on April 19, 2023. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles C. Spruill, son Charles Fauntleroy; sisters Frances Coleman and Norma L. Barksdale, and brother Ronald Coleman. Lorraine was the oldest of five children. She spent her childhood in Philadelphia and received her education in the school system there. As an adult, she worked in the clothing industry where she made designer suits. She was a gifted seamstress. In the second phase of her career, Lorraine made custom draperies, specializing in making swags and jabots. Interior designers were always requesting that she work on their projects. Lorraine worked hard to provide for her family. Her children were always fashionably dressed for school. She lovingly made dresses, skirts, suits, and coats for her daughters and jackets for her sons. Lorraine enjoyed crocheting afghans, scarfs, and hats in her spare time. Lorraine loved to travel. She enjoyed trips to Atlantic City, New Jersey, and the Poconos Mountains in Pennsylvania. Two of her most memorable trips were to Europe and Orlando, Florida. She loved to receive cards. They meant so much to her that she saved all of them. Lorraine was an avid 76ers fan and Allen Iverson was her favorite player. She kept abreast of local and national politics and current events and would often engage in lively discussions. Lorraine leaves to cherish her memory, three children: Annette Fauntleroy of Orlando, FL; Darryl Fauntleroy (Gladys) of Pine Hill, NJ; and Naomi Fauntleroy of Mason Neck, VA, brothers-in-law, Curtis Hassell and Harry Hassell and sister-in-law, Agnes Hassell; eight grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. In addition, she leaves a special “adopted” daughter, Carol Chappell, whose acts of kindness and care will always be remembered.
