Obituary of Renee M. Benson
Please share a memory of Renee to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Renee Mary Benson entered this world on February 8, 1950, in Camden, New Jersey. Renee is the fourth oldest child of the late Samuel and Vivian Benson (Copeland) Jr. She departed this life on December 24, 2022, in Southfield, Michigan.
Renee lived in East Riverton, NJ until she was five years old. The family then moved to Riverton, NJ where she attended Riverton Public School. At a young age, she learned and loved to play the piano. After graduating from Palmyra High School, she studied Stenography at Harris School of Business. Renee worked at Macmillan Book Publishing Company where she was an excellent typist and stenographer. In her spare time, she enjoyed bowling. She married Robert Jones, Sr. and from this union were three children.
A loving mother, daughter and sister, Renee was spiritually consistent in her reference to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ throughout her life, praising Him and never complaining. You would often find her reading and studying her bible. She was an active member of St. Paul Baptist Church, prior to moving to Michigan with her daughter and family. Even though she was miles away, she stayed connected with her church family. Renee loved to cook her signature dishes: fried chicken, sautéed cabbage and apple cake. Renee will always be remembered for her strong faith, beautiful smile, and kind manner.
In her recent years when her health declined, Renee looked forward to attending an adult day program sponsored by Jewish Vocational Services (JVS) in Michigan, where she resumed her love for playing the piano.
Renee leaves to cherish her memory, her loving children: daughter Tameka Johns (Manuel), and son Robert Jones Jr. (Angie); Nine grandchildren and Six great-grandchildren.
She will be missed by her sisters Elva Sheppard, Hope Sadler, Marsha Grant (Danny), Enise Richardson (Hilton), Jacqueline Gipson, Beverly Pinkney (Eugene), Robin Erickson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Renee is reunited with her daughter, Hope Jones and her siblings in Heaven: Vivian Benson, Samuel Benson III, Shawn Benson, Helene Tharpe and Theodore Benson.
