Obituary
Obituary of Margaret S. Jordan
Please share a memory of Margaret to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Margaret Harris was born to the late Margaret Young and James Harris on November 8, 1929, in Sumpter South Carolina. Margaret was the eldest of 6 children 5 who has preceded her in death. Although Margaret received little education, she was self-made, she went to work at an early age to help provide for her family. Margaret always believed in family and during her time growing up in the south Margaret met and married her first husband James Miller. Margaret and James went on to have 6 children 4 of whom preceded her in death: Jimmie Miller, Annie Mae Miller, Mary Jones and Robert Miller.
I can only surmise that times were very difficult growing up in the south and raising a family, at a young age and unfortunately the marriage between Margaret and James Miller did not last. Shortly thereafter Margaret took her children and headed to New Jersey where she gained employment at the Campbell Soup Company in Camden NJ. Margaret worked at Campbell soup for many years before leaving there to pursue other opportunities. However, Campbell Soup is where Margaret met and married her 2nd husband Simmie Jordan who has preceded her in death. The two of them were very happy together, Simmie helped Margaret raise her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Margaret was a very kind, loving, nurturing and God-fearing woman and she instilled those same values in her family. Margaret was very independent and active in her community and her church. Margaret was a member of Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church where she sang on the choir and served on the missionary board something she was most proud of.
Margaret was loved by all who encountered her and prior to her illness she was employed by the Camden school district as a lunch aide at Camden High School and a custodian at McGraw elementary school where she was greatly revered and from where she would eventually retire.
After retiring Margaret enjoyed spending time with her family, participating in senior events such as the senior marathon and reading her bible.
Margaret leaves behind to mourn 2 sons Clarence Miller Jr. (Darlene Miller) and James Miller (Yvonne Miller) her niece and nephew Carolyn and her brother Monroe. (11) grandchildren Joyce, Frank, Darnell, Foo, Margaret her name sake, Joseph, Solonia, Robert, Nydia, Ty and Erica (pre-deceased). (14) great grands Annie, Shaila, Shamia, Shakeya, Eric, Sade, Ayanna, Omar and Shania, Kayla, Keziah, Levi, Nunu and, Daniel (7) great great grandchildren Tamia, Zirah, Zadeer, Monique, Zakiya, Derrick and Ahmaad and a host of other family and friends.
