Obituary of Patsie A. Amos

On Friday, June 4, and in the Year 2021 of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, surely the Angels singing joyously to one another heralded the Celebration of the Life well-lived of Mrs. Patsie Ann Amos as she spread her angel wings to fly Home to Glory to join Our Heavenly Father in Heaven Selah. Patsie (Pat, as she was affectionately called) was married to husband, Charles Amos, Sr., for 60 years. She departed her earthly life at Samaritan Hospice in Voorhees, New Jersey. She lived a life worth living for 84 years. pat was born on September 8, 1936, in Prospect, Virginia, to the late Howard Watson and Annie Bertha Johnson. She attended Prospect Elementary School. In her final year of elementary school, she skipped a grade because she was an exceptionally bright academic student. She was sent to Robert R. Morton High School in FarmVille, Prince edward County, Virginia. Pat was raised in Prospect, VA., with her younger brother, David (now deceased), and three of her first cousins: Rudy Johnson, Joan and Ella Earley. After graduating from high school, Pat attended St. Phillips of School of Nursing, in Richmond, VA., from 1956 to 1959. The school subsequently merged into the University of Virginia School of Nursing. Upon completing the requirements for Registered Nurse in 1959, she moved to Darby, Pennsylvania, and lived with her cousin, Ella. She also worked during that time at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She later changed her employment to Philadelphia General Hospital. She completed her higher education as a Registered Nurse by graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Glamssboro State College (now Rowan University), in 1979. Her decision to relocate was fortuitous as she met her future husband, Charles G. Amos, Sr., in 1959; they married October 1, 1960. From their union were born two sons, Charles Jr., and Michael. Pat and Charles lived in West Philadelphia for a short time before moving to the West Oak Lane section, also in Philadelphia. They later purchased their current home in the Borough of Chesilhurst, New Jersey, in 1966. During her marriage, Pat worked in various areas of nursing; as a Visiting Nurse, Nurse at Planned Parenthood, and also as a School Nurse. The largest segment of her professional career was as a School Nurse in the Vineland Public School System, from which she retired in June 1997. Blessed with a peaceful, quiet, and determined spirit, Pat was always active in church. Starting in her younger years, she joined St. James A.M.E. Church, in Prospect, VA, at the age of 12. When she moved to Darby, PA, she attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church at which she and her cousin sang in the choir. Following her marriage, she attended Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church in Camden, and later Grant A.M.E. Church, in Chesilhurst, also in New Jersey. At Grant, she was a member of the Gospel Chorus, Senior Choir, Nurse's Unit, and Mother Earth, a program for senior women. She richly enjoyed her family and church life; in her leisure time, she enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, macrame', and quilting. Pat leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Charles, Sr.; two sons, Charles Jr. (finance', Margo Lynn Keese), and Michael (spouse, Tregel); daughters-in-law, Tracey Amos and Arden Amos; grandchildren, Alexis Alexandra, Amber Nicole, Alyssa Sonje, and Michael, Jr.; sister-in-law Nellie Davis; cousins Ella Laseinde Amos and Gloria McClain; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
