spent her latter days at The Heritage at Lake Forest in Sanford, FL where she entered into eternal rest on Friday, October 28, 2011.



She was born on March 25, 1920, at the Women's Hospital in West Philadelphia, PA, and was the first born of seven children to the late George Morgan and Sarah Ruth Miller Collins.



During her very young years, she and her family lived in Pennsauken, NJ, where she was enrolled in grammar school. Sometime later, her family left the area to take up residence in Atlantic City, NJ. She finished her grammar school education there and was graduated from the Atlantic City High School in June 1938. Following her graduation, she was gainfully employed as a secretary by several African-American owned companies in Atlantic City, NJ.



On April 18, 1942, she was joined in marriage to Howard J. Washington, Sr. of Palmyra, NJ., who preceded her to his heavenly mansion on June 22, 2002. During their 60 year marriage, they produced one son, Howard J. Washington, Jr..



She began her career in government service with the U.S. Civil Service Commission as a clerk from 1952 to 1962. After a short period of employment at the Frankford Arsenal, she retired in June 1980 from the Defense Supply Center in Philadelphia after twenty eight years of government service. During this period of employment she was the recipient of several performance citations.



She became a member of Mt. Zion AME Church where she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior in the latter part of 1942, under the pastorate of Rev. John C. Spivey. She was active in The Altar Circle and The Chancel Choir for many years. She also served on the Church Bulletin Publications Staff. She loved and cared about her church. She was faithful and committed to whatever was asked of her. She enjoyed gathering with family and friends, especially with The Old Buddies Group.



She leaves to mourn her passing: Son, Howard J. Washington, Jr.; Daughter-in-law, Barbara A. Washington, Apopka, FL.; Granddaughters, Shelby Nicole Washington, Firenze, Italy., Korri Rene Jackson, Husband Daric V. Jackson and Great Grandchildren, Simeon Silas and Solange Sophia Jackson, Ownings Mills, MD; Brother-in-laws John E. Washington, Palmyra, NJ., Wilbur T. Washington and spouse, Marie Washington, Beverly, NJ.; Sister-in-law: Edna W.Webb, Palmyra, NJ., and a host of aunts, nieces, nephews, and friends.
