Obituary of Raymond S. Amos, Jr.
Please share a memory of Raymond to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Raymond Stetson Amos, Jr. was born November 20, 1957 to the late Raymond & Jessie Amos. He went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Raymond who we fondly called Skip was the second oldest child of the family. He was educated in the public-school system, he attended Hammonton Elementary School & Edgewood Regional High School. After graduating from Edgewood, he attended Penco Tech where he earned his certification as a mechanic.
He met and married the love of his life Madeline Bonilla. From this union came two sons Raymond Amos and Kevin Amos.
Skip grew up in a Christian family who believed in leading by example. A family full of love with high moral and ethical standards who stressed education as the way to living a better life. A family who were leaders in their church and in the community. They worshipped as a family, The whole family, Grand Pop and Grand Mom, Mom and Dad, Uncles, Aunts & Cousins. They would fill the pews at Grant AME Church in Chesilhurst. Each Sunday after church everyone went to Grand Mom and Grand Pop's for dinner. Seeking to know more about and a better relationship with the God we served Skip joined Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church in Sicklerville under Bishop Hargrove.
Raymond worked at Ancora State Hospital for over 30 years until he retired a couple years ago. Not only did he advocate for the patients, but also for the employee serving as a union official. he worked untiredly at whatever the task, never complaining always smiling. Raymond had a smile that was infectious, would turn a frown upside down and could light up a room.
Besides family his other two loves were cars and bowling. he loved cars, fixing them, rebuilding, and racing them. Growing up he would spend many hours and weekends at Atco Drag Wat racing and watching others race. He loved cars so much that he took over the family garage and added an addition onto it to have more room to work on the vehicles. Bowling: Tournaments took him everywhere. He bowled locally, in Delaware and Los Vegas. It was nothing for someone to call him and he'd say with that grin in his voice, "I'm in Vegas bowling in a tournament" one birthday he had to be tracked down to give him his cake and gifts; found him at a bowling alley.
Skip loved helping people, if anyone asked him to do something NO was not in his vocabulary.
If you needed your car fixed, work done on your house, a ride, or anything, he would say OK with a smile.
Skip leaves to cherish his memory: Two sons Raymond (Salima) and Kevin; Two grandchildren Raymond and Ryan. Brother Loren (Phyllis), 4 Sisters: Valorie (Tyrone), Courtney (Marcus), Tiffany and Nicole (Frank), Cousin/Brother George (Pat), Cousin/Brother Eugene (Marsha), Best Friend Kevin Woods; 3 Aunts: Bonnie Richardson, Catherine Shephard, Nellie Davis, 2 Uncles Charles (Pat), John; Stepmother Ida Amos, nieces Keysha, Tyesha, Tatianna, Tishira, Rashell, Naomi, Joanna, Sabrina; Nephews Tyrone, Rahtice, Natheniel, Mekhi, Logan, and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
