Please share a memory of Vernon to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Vernon Allen Hamilton was born February 11, 1954 to Veronica Smith & Norman Holt. Vernon grew up in West Atco, New Jersey and was educated in the New Jersey school system. He took up a trade of culinary arts during his high school years. His love for cooking made him an excellent cook. Vernon met and married Marie and out of that union were born 3 girls Andrea “Nikki”, Tracey & Monalisa. Vernon was the first to operate the one man trash truck on the east coast. He would later become a loved employee at the Berlin Farmer’s Market until his illness got the best of him. Vernon moved to Philadelphia in 2010 with his wife, children and grandchildren. In 2012, Vernon was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, astrocytoma of the spine. He was told it was terminal and given a life expectancy of less than 2 years. During his battle, he was able to overcome many of his personal demons. Vernon beat the odds and survived many years after his diagnosis but was left immobile due to his illness. Vernon fought for more than 8 years. Unfortunately, he grew tired and decided to let go. On Thursday, February 20th, Vernon transitioned into eternal rest after suffering a heart attack. It was an unexpected death and left his family devastated. He was truly loved and cared for compassionately, by his family until his last breath. Vernon survived by his wife Marie of 45 years, his 4 children Nikki (Derrick), Tracey, Monalisa and Andre; his 10 grandchildren Asheley, Amber, Amir, Roniece, Najir, Ondrea, Andre Jr., Kahmir, Denim, Kayla & his 3 great grandsons Jaden, Aasim & Naseem, stepfather Willie Smith, 6 siblings Nathaniel (Vanessa), Norman, Amanda, Romona, Rosa (Tim), Trina, sister-in-law Irene, brother-in-law Bobby (Vikki) & as well as host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles & friends. Vernon’s infectious smile, love for strolling down memory lane will be deeply missed by all.
