Obituary of Nathaniel Walker
Nathaniel Walker (“Nate”) was born on July 19, 1946, in Manhattan, New York to the late Joan V. Matthews. He departed this life surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 21, 2019.
When Nate was just a baby, he and his mother moved to Camden, New Jersey. Nate was educated in the Camden, New Jersey School District, where he met and later married his high school sweetheart, Doris Shands. They were devoted to one another for better or for worse for 52 years.
Nate had his own personal relationship with the Lord and dedicated his life to Christ in June 1986.
In 1987, Nate was employed by Stony Brook Hospital in New York City. He worked in Environmental Services for 30 years. Everyone who crossed his path at Stony Brook and beyond said: “what a funny guy he was”. Oh, how Nate could really make you laugh!
After 30 years of employment, Nate retired. Enjoying his retirement, he loved to spend time with his grandsons and watch football with his son-in-law. But his favorite past time was eating! Nate couldn’t wait for Thanksgiving to come around so that he could enjoy plenty of good food and laughter with his nieces and nephews.
Nate leaves to mourn and cherish his fond memory his beloved wife, Doris Walker, his only child Natalie Brown (Larry); his two grandsons, Larry, Jr. and Nathaniel Brown; two sisters-in-law, Carmen and Lorraine Shands; one brother-in-law, Edward Watts; a very special niece, Debra J. Foster; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
