Bernice D. Haslam (Nee Belvin) was born on February 14, 1940 to the late Joseph Belvin Sr. and the late Gladys Clark in Perry, Georgia. She was the second oldest of nine children. She passed away quietly and peacefully in God's care on Thursday evening, July 23, 2009 at her residence.
Bernice attended the Perry Public School System up into the 11th grade. Later, she received her G.E.D. from Atlantic Cape Community College in 1972.
On August 2, 1958, Bernice married Billy E. Haslam and to to this blessed union four children were born, Terry, Denise, Marcus and Billy, Jr. They moved the family to New Jersey in August 1968.
Bernice gave thirty years of dedicated service at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital as a Human Service Technician before retiring in 1998. During her years and experience there, she had many supportive friends and co-workers.
Bernice was an active member of Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church. She faithfully served as a senior usher and worked with the missionaries and cooking ministry. She loved her church and church family. She attended worship service until she could no longer attend. She just loved to praise the Lord. Bernice was a wonderful person, she had a good sense of humor and all that knew her said she was a joy to be around.
Bernice was preceded in death by her oldest son, Marcus Jerome Haslam.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories: one daughter, Denise Marriweather of Egg Harbor City; two sons, Terry S. Haslam (Janet) of Southfield, Michigan and Billy Haslam, Jr. of Newtonville; three brothers, Charlie Belvin (Margaret) of Lakeann, Patrick Clark and Keith Clark both of San Antonio, Texas; four sisters Lucille Clark of Richland, Ruby Fultz, Gladys Clark and Carolyn Clark all of San Antonio, Texas; two grandchildren, Jannell Haslam and Tisha Haslam of Southfield Michigan; her former spouse, Billy Haslam, Sr. (Virginia) of Macon, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Lovingly submitted, The Family
