Obituary of Gary W. Medley

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
First Quarter On October 1, 1962, The Eagles decided to draft the MVP of a lifetime and placed Gary W. Medley in Marlton, New Jersey, by way of Joseph R. Medley Sr. and Jannie L. Medley. He was the baby boy, “Number 4” as he would say. Second Quarter Gary graduated from Edgewood Regional High School. He loved sports! He was a great wrestler, basketball, and football player. Gary attended trade school and became a Certified Welder. Gary was so talented and skilled; he could build anything. His love for the trade led him to seek employment and further his career in masonry work where he retired from. Third Quarter The love of his life was his Mom! Gary and his mother had a very special bond. His mom was literally his Best Friend. He took pride in letting everyone know “I’m the Baby Boy!” Gary would always make sure his Mom would eat and made sure she was alright. The love Gary had for his “Pop”, the late Apostle Charlie Odom, was unmatched and they were inseparable. Gary would say with great pride “That’s my Dad!” His love for God and “The Word” was remarkable. Gary enjoyed spreading the love of God and the good news of the Bible with everyone he would meet. Gary gave His life to the Lord and was Baptized. He served as a Trained Usher and was a Licensed Deacon of First Baptist Church of Chesilhurst, He also served in the Media Department by recording all the services, He worked tirelessly with the Food Ministry as the “BBQ Man”. Gary made the BEST BBQ in the world when he didn’t burn it, lol. He also served as a volunteer and was on the Board of the Corner Cupboard Food Pantry as well as a former member of the Chesilhurst Planning & Zoning Board. He loved helping at Cacia’s Bakery, where he probably ate more than he baked, lol. Fourth Quarter Gary had an unmatched abundance of love for his children Gerae, Aisha, Gary Jr., Alexis, and Joseph. Gary loved to share a good beer, watch sports and was always the life of the party. He loved teaching the kids to play sports, ride dirt bikes, and go fishing. Gary enjoyed attending family trips and BBQ’s. Dropping knowledge and wisdom to everyone he would meet. Gary loved introducing you to everyone and still saying your name wrong lol. He was a giver. Yes, he had a special way of getting on your nerves by talking too much but that was just Gary! You couldn’t help but love him. Over Time Gary is preceded in death by “Pop” Apostle Charlie Odom, great-nephew Jace A. Streater, nephew Kevin Bonners, and brother-in-law Walter L Garnett III. Gary leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved Mother Jannie L. Odom and his legacy continues through Gary’s beloved children: Gerae (Gara) Medley (Atria), Aisha Medley, Gary Medley Jr., and Joseph Medley, granddaughter Alani Torres, goddaughter Mikayla Garnett, three grand godchildren, Sapphire, Santana, and Sevyn, his siblings, “Best Buddy” Joseph Medley, Gregory Medley (Joyce), Jeffrey Medley, his “Lil Sis” Janet Beckwith (Bruce whom he called “Brother in Law”), his “Baby Sis” and Pastor Mayor Jamila Odom-Garnett, whom he called his second mother “Mill” and “Big Sister” Dawn Odom, his “Buddies” Terry McNair, and Tony (Deneen) Odom, Damon Odom, and Linda Medley, special cousin John (Johnny) Webb ( Lisa) . Gary had a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He had a special bond with niece Viktoria Beckwith, nephews Bruce Beckwith and Marquis Garnett and baby Josiah Beckwith.
