Obituary of Jesse Wilburt Davis

Jesse W. Davis was born on October 21, 1938 to the late William “Jack” Davis and Leanna Davis (nee Smith) in Gaffney, South Carolina. He was one of 9 children. At 11 years old, Jesse moved to Bridgeton, NJ, he attended the public school system and graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1958. He joined the National Guard shortly after graduation and served for 8 years. In 1961, he met and married Juanita Morris of Salem NJ. They had three children Phyllis A. Davis, LaTisa Davis, and Jesse W. Davis Jr, they later moved to Indianapolis, Indiana. After several years of marriage, they divorced. Jesse later moved back to New Jersey and attended Cecil Deliverance Tabernacle under the Leadership of Elder Willie Joe Fletcher. He received Jesus Christ as his personal Savior in March of 1980. At church, he met and married Helen Norma Ford in 1982. Together they raised 13 children, Vernell Iyinbor-Roberts (Robert), Lisa Cottman (William), Rena Davis, David Davis, Phyllis Davis, Eugenia Davis, Maxine Davis, Gary Davis, James Davis, Danielle Davis, Daisy Davis, Ikea Davis, and Dwane Davis (Sun). Jesse retired from Ancora State Hospital after working over twenty years. Jesse was no stranger to being a jack of all trades because he knew a little something about everything, from cars to gardening. Jesse was passionate about musical instruments, bird watching and CB radio certification. He enjoyed discussing the bible and the goodness of Jesus Christ. He often enjoyed sharing his testimony with others. Jesse became a member of Jesus In the Midst Ministries under the Leadership of Pastor Raymond O. Lewis with his wife, in 2002. He loved reading the bible and connecting with the Lord along the side of his beloved wife at their home. Jesse departed this life on Sunday, December 27th, 2020, with his family by his side. He is predeceased by both parents, his beloved wife Helen Norma Davis, three sisters Burlia Davis, Susan Hill, Vernelle Fletcher (Willie), and one brother Joe Davis (Gisele). He leaves to cherish his memories, 16 children: Phyllis A. Davis-Dennis, LaTisa Davis, Jesse W. Davis Jr., Vernell Iyinbor-Roberts (Robert), Lisa Cottman (William), Rena Davis, David Davis, Phyllis Davis, Eugenia Davis, Maxine Davis, Gary Davis, James Davis, Danielle Davis, Daisy Davis, Ikea Davis, and Dwane Davis (Sun). 25 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. four sisters, Mattie Satterfield (James), Lois Davis, Freddie Tibbs, and Ella Jones (Gregory). several godchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
