Mitchell Malik Helton was born on September 27, 1992, to Mitchell A. Helton III and Tameka Taylor-Moorehead in Philadelphia, PA.
Mitchell received his education in school districts across Philadelphia, Maryland, and New Jersey, ultimately graduating from Winslow Township High School in Atco, NJ. He also attended Camden County College for a brief time, pursuing a career in counseling.
Known affectionately as “Mit”, he was a dedicated individual who supported those in need and was committed to his faith. Throughout his life, he demonstrate thoughtfulness, compassion, and a clear dedication to sharing the gospel. Despite being born weighing 4lbs, 14oz at 33 weeks circumstances that statistically challenged his prognosis, Mitchell consistently surpassed expectations.
As a child Mitchell was adventurous, displaying curiosity and enthusiasm for new experiences. He enjoyed activities such as riding quads, playing paintball, fishing, and hunting. His interests also included music, writing poems that turned into lyrics, and comedy shows, and movies. Gifted artistically, he excelled in drawing and painting.
In 2004, Mitchell participated in football with the North Philly Aztecs Youth Association. Alongside his teammates, he contributed to securing the LYAA Conference championship, the Regional Championship, the State Championship and achieving a Pop Warner Super Bowl victory in Florida. They were the first team in Philadelphia conference history to reach this achievement. He continued with the team until 2006, later joining the Mt. Airy Bantams Youth Association from 2006 to 2008. Additionally, Mitchell took part in track and field through the New Sigma Track Club.
Professionally, Mitchell played an integral role as head cook at Big Daddy’s Seafood & Rib Ranch, a family enterprise established by his father when Mitchell was four years old. Each dish reflected his passion, creativity, and commitment to bringing people together. He frequently served as head cook at family gatherings, utilizing his natural culinary skills.
Mitchell was known for his ability to connect with others, whether through culinary pursuits, conversation, or sports enthusiasm. GO BIRDS! His fondness for assigning unique nicknames demonstrated his personable nature.
A devout Christian, Mitchell maintained a strong relationship with his faith, often reciting scripture and offering interpretation. He actively participated in community outreach,including visiting men’s shelters to offer prayers. Mitchell & 39;s charisma, resilience, and self-motivation were widely recognized. He made a lasting impression on all who knew him and will be remembered as someone who positively influenced many lives. But most importantly he was contagious; if you met him, you have a story.
He was predeceased by his son, Mitchell Malik Helton, Jr., grandfathers Herbert Sanders and Mitchell A. Helton, Sr., as well as cousins Tyreek Helton and Dominique Brent.
Mitchell is survived by his mother, Tameka Taylor-Moorehead (Anthony); father, Mitchell A. Helton III; and mom Margaret. His children include his son, Carl Helton, and daughter, Journey Helton. He is also survived by grandmothers Jessica Helton and Pamela Sanders. His siblings are brothers Nygel Sanders (Victoria), DyQuan Helton, Anthony (Pam), and Deven Moorehead (Ashley); and sisters La’Taya Miller, Margaret Farmer, and Jasmyn Moorehead. Mitchell leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews: Trey, Amara, Nygel, Aniyah,Abreia, Noa, Nuri, Nevaeha, Nylah, Leo, Amari, Averi, Kevin, Allure, Wayne, Maliyah,Weston, Ameliana, and Amara. His uncles include Herbert Taylor, Saleem Sanders, Charles Brent Sr. (Iris), Brian Brent Sr. (Sophia), and Drew Brent. His aunts are Tracy Helton, Danielle Helton-Baylock (Todd), and Paula Brent. Among his many cousins are Joseph, Jessica, Sahnti, Janae, Aaliyah, Brandon,Ayanna, Simone, Siana, Brooklyn, Anthea, Chimere, Brian Jr., Stephen, Chris, Jeffery,Chatia, Charita, and Shopantoinne. Mitchell held his beloved Brittany (Shaquita) in the highest regards. She was truly valued in his life.He is also remembered by numerous cousins, family members, friends, and a supportive community.
