William received his education in the King and Queen County School System in Virginia. Guided by his parents and the congregation of First Mt. Olive Baptist Church, he developed a strong foundation in Christian faith and values that would guide him throughout his life.

As a young adult, William relocated to New Jersey, where he began working at the Moyer-Mitchell Poultry Company in Voorhees. There, he met and fell in love with Gladys Toomer. They were united in holy matrimony in November 1956 in Berlin, New Jersey, and together they built a loving home in Camden, where they raised their family. William was a devoted husband and father, known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He pursued opportunities that allowed him to support his loved ones, including many years of dedicated service with Formigli Brothers Concrete. A man of creativity and skill, William enjoyed working with his hands. He constructed and played guitars, took pride in gardening, and maintained a beautifully manicured yard. William was known for his impeccable appearance and sense of style, and he cherished his collection of cars, trucks, and motorcycles, always keeping them in pristine condition.

William was deeply committed to his faith. For a time, he worshipped with his wife at Bright Memorial United Body Disciples of Christ Church in Camden. Later, he transferred his membership to Bethany Baptist Church in Lindenwold,

where he also served as a custodian. Even when he was no longer able to attend services in person, William remained a faithful supporter of his church community. On January 26, 2026, William completed his earthly journey in Cedar Brook, New Jersey, at the home of his devoted daughter, Constance, and son-in-law, Kerwin Smith, Sr. He leaves behind a legacy of love, integrity, and devotion to family and
