Jacqueline Maria Morant was born on December 18, 1956, to the late Geneva Watson. Affectionately known as Jackie, she grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she was the first daughter of thirteen children. She was educated in the Philadelphia Public School System.
During her youth, Jackie enjoyed being a part of the drill team and was a member of the Panelized Soul Sister Club. She treasured time spent with her siblings and loved playing games such as jacks, volleyball, jump rope, backgammon, and spinning tops. She also enjoyed watching television, especially westerns and detective shows.
In 1975, Jackie met the love of her life, O’Neil Morant, a SEPTA bus driver. After a brief conversation, she offered to help him with an English class he needed to pursue his goal of becoming an accountant. Their bond blossomed into a lifelong love, and they were married on October 17, 1981. From this union, they were blessed with two daughters, Nicole and Tennille.
Throughout her life, Jackie held many careers, including positions at Pathmark, Crossing Guard for the City of Philadelphia, and Comcast, just to name a few. She eventually retired from the Appoquinimink School District in Delaware to help care for her youngest grandchild—an answered prayer close to her heart. Along her professional journey, she formed lifelong friendships that became more like family.
Jackie loved spending time with her husband, family, and friends. She enjoyed traveling, ladies only poker-keno night and family beach days. She was admired for her beauty, kindness, gentle spirit, and soft-spoken manner. Jackie had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome and treating others like family.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her devoted husband, O’Neil; daughters Sonya (Byron), Jenetta (Greg), Nicole (Leroy), and Tennille; grandchildren John, Craig, Daija, Kyera, Kerry, Joshua, Ny ‘Elle, and Teil; great-grandchildren Kaniyah, Milan, and Cassius; brothers Charles (Bernice), Stanley, and Robert (Wendy); sisters; Olivia, Regina (Earl), Brenda (Edward), Sheila, Yvonne (Wesley), Alesia, and Leslie; and siblings preceded in death—brothers Ronald, Donald, and Nathaniel. She also leaves a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in laws; sisters-in love Dora Morant, and Cynthia Stanford, extended family, and dear friends, especially her best friend Patricia Williams, and best cousin Lawrence Cooper.
Jackie accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Bethel A.M.E. Church in Smyrna, Delaware.
During her last days, she had consistent love and support from her family and friends. May Jacqueline Maria Morant rest in eternal peace.
