If you knew Mary Lou Thompson, there are three things you knew for sure: she adored her family and spending time with them, she enjoyed helping adults with special needs and she loved the Lord.
Born on July 2, 1958, in Camden, N.J., and called home to be with the Lord on November 21, 2025, Mary spent her 67 years living out those three loves, always trying to make the most out of every moment. She was the proud mother of seven children.
The loving daughter of Carrie and the late Jerome Green, and bonus daughter of her beloved aunt the late Elizabeth Dredden, Mary was raised in what was then the East Berlin section of Berlin Township. She received her early education in the Berlin Township School District. She later moved to Camden, where she attended Camden High School. After leaving school before graduation, she was determined to complete her education and later proudly earned herGeneral Education Diploma in 1999.
Mary loved the Lord and Gospel music. From a young age she attended Sunday services with her grandmother Claudia Green and her extended family at Green Grove Baptist Church in Berlin. At the age of 11, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and was baptized under the leadership of Reverend W.L.Turner. In recent years, as it became increasingly difficult totravel to Green Grove, she received spiritual nourishment through fellowship with Lighthouse of Deliverance Gospel Church, just a short distance from her home in Lindenwold. Never letting her love and desire to worship with what she fondly called "her family church," Green Grove fade.
In her early career, Mary worked at Moody's Print Shop. She spent 10 years with J.L. Food Company's Poultry Factory, in Camden, which she fondly referred to as "the chicken factory." But her most cherished time was with The Arc of Camden County in Berlin, where she wasemployed for 20 years. Mary thoroughly enjoyed working with her clients and formed deep bounds with her co-workers. Especially her bosses, Barbara and Pat who she remained in close contact with after her retirement in 2019, and until she was called home to eternal rest.
Most of all, Mary had a deep love of family and cherished family gatherings. She never missed a backyard barbeque, birthday party, baby shower, weddings or any occasion where family members were gathering, Mary was there. And, oh how she loved to dance. She could often be seen battling with both young and old on the dance floor. She didn't let anything (not even aneed for oxygen) get in the way of a good time. As her health declined and she couldn't attend, she would ask her daughters to bring her a plate so she could still be a part of every celebration. She also especially enjoyed summer trips to the Jersey Shore with her children and grandchildren. She was fond of Wildwood, but she loved both day and overnight trips to Atlantic City where she could be found strolling the boardwalk.
In addition to her father and aunt, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kamora, and a sister, Charlene Tetteh.
Mary leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Rasheda Dredden, Erica, Bland-Marshall (Keith) Essence Robinson, Linda Dredden, Dante Thompson (Jasmine) Serena Robinson (Jose) Tyrone Thompson (Saria) and her special son Earl Bland, her mother Carrie Green; 13 grandchildren, Sania, CJ, Tamir, Ethan, Jaden, Jeremiah, Trinity, Easton, Reigh, Santonio, Kyrie, and Tyrie and her siblings, Jeanette Green, Roberta Green, Lily Green, Antoinette Jenkins, Lorraine Dredden Cook, Lisa Dredden, Aaron Green, Jerry Green and Jesse and a
host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
Lovingly submitted,
The Family
