Ted Mathias Ambrose, lovingly known as "Mr. Belly Buster," passed away peacefully on September 8, 2025, in Stratford, NJ, at the age of 86. Ted was born on April 9, 1939 to the late, Rosalin Browne and Lawrence Ambrose who preceded him in death in St. Vincent the Grenadines. Ted touched countless lives with his infectious humor,
generous heart, and the undeniable warmth he brought to every gathering, large or small.
The proud son of the islands, Ted completed high school education before embarking on a life made colorful through hard work, family, and service. He found his calling on the open sea, rising to Head Chef and Steward aboard the SS Ore Monarch, SS Universe Burmah, and the SS Hamlet. Through his years at sea, Ted became renowned for not only his culinary expertise but also his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. Later, upon settling in New Jersey, he continued impacting young lives until his retirement from the Board of Education.
Ted is survived by his first wife Mary and their children Anthony (Noel), Merle, Earl, Jacqueline, Michael, Ann, Richard and Jimmy Dean. He was a loving step father to his children from his previous wife, Carol.
Ted's life took a beautiful turn when he met Janice the summer of 1983. Their connection was immediate and undeniable. From this union came Ted (Lawrence) and he will be deeply missed by his step children Rose and Diana, whom he loved as his own.
A devoted husband, Ted married Janice in April 2007, and together they built a life centered around love, faith, and family. Each will remember him as a guiding light, whose open arms and quick jokes made every challenge a little easier to face. Ted's kindness and generosity were legendary; when his community was in need, he gave
what he knew best -- delicious food and heartfelt care.
Known for his green thumb, passion for photography, and boundless enthusiasm for cooking, Ted brought beauty, joy and comfort wherever he went. He faithfully served his spiritual community as a Jehovah's Witness at the Kingdom Hall, living by example and reminding everyone around him that there are no strangers, only friends yet to be made.
Ted's family invites all who knew him to celebrate his life on Saturday, September 20th,2025, at 11 AM at Covington Funeral Home, 755 White Horse Pike, Atco, NJ 08004.
