Obituary of William G. Wood
Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William Gordan Wood went home to be with the Lord on October 13, 2020. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 15, 1934 to the late Deacon Joseph and Helen Wood.
He moved to Williamstown, NJ when he was 5 years old. He accepted the Lord at an early age. He was a member of Community Baptist Church and sang on the Gospel Choir, Wings of Harmony.
William received his education through the Williamstown-Glassboro School Districts.
As a young man he worked various jobs and later formed Dual Janitorial Services in which he employed many of his family members. He met and fell in love with Anna Mae Smith. They were married June 24, 1972 and raised one daughter, Elaine Wood Davis.
In his later years, he worked at Kennedy Hospital as well as at Ancora State Hospital for 20 years in the Housekeeping Department.
Later he joined Ebenezer Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon. Years later he attended 1st Baptist Church, Glassboro, NJ.
William was known as “Bill”, “Woody, Pee-Wee and Dec” to his friends and family. He was very talkative and discussed every topic you brought up. (According to his daughter, Elaine, he thought knew everything.) Anyone who knew Deacon Wood, knew he loved quoting scriptures and singing Old Gospel songs. He always had a song on his Heart.
He was preceded in death by brothers, James and Joseph Wood and sister, Mary Pinckney. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Anna, daughter Elaine (James) Davis, Grandsons, Kevin (Kim) and Deion. Great grands, Bryce, Mariah, Kylie and Keegan. One sister, Hattie Segers, his special niece, Joann Johnson, a favorite nephew, Joseph Andre Wood-El and lovely God-daughter, Heather Johnson-Smith. Four Brother-in- laws, Liston(Queenie), McArthur(Catherine), Wardell(Eileen), Carey(Heather) and 2 Sister-in-laws, Arletha and Ellen(Vern). A host of nieces and nephews and friends.
We loved him but God loved him best. He will truly be missed but always in our Hearts.
