Delia Wilson Henson, was born on January 30, 1920, to the late Allan and Emma Wilson of Scottsburg, Virginia. She was the widow of the late Edward A. Henson, stepmother of three children, now deceased. She has one loving daughter-in-law, Alice Henson, and three loving grandchildren. She has five loving nephews, and a host of nieces and nephews. Delia attended the local public schools in Virginia. She later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where she worked in the clothing business for many years. She met and married Edward A. Henson. The couple moved to Chesilhurst, New Jersey, in 1968. Delia joined Grant A.M.E. Church in the 1960’s under the leadership of now Presiding Elder Lynda T. Rassman. She was a faithful member of the Grant’s Lay Organization, Senior Usher Board and the Church’s Culinary Arts Committee. She was well known for her famous pound cakes, fresh mint tea and tri-color pasta salads. She also loved helping anyone in need. She was an active member of the South Jersey Organic Gardening Club and a member of Grant A.M.E. Mother Earth Senior Women’s Ministry Program. Her favorite scripture was Psalm 27:1 “ The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life, whom shall I be afraid?” Her favorite hymn was “The Battle is Not Yours, It’s The Lord”. Her personal comment was: “I want to thank God for my health and strength. I thank God for all of His many blessings towards me”. Delia leaves to cherish her memories are her 5 Nephews: James E. Wilson of Cleveland, OH, Lloyd C. Barksdale (Carolyn) of A.C., NJ, Larry D. Sims (Vickie) of S. Boston, VA, Jesse L. Sims of Cleveland, OH and Sherrell D. Sims (Jackie) of S. Boston, VA; Stepson: Edward Henson, Jr. (Alice) of Sheffield Lake, OH; Godsons: Steve & Michael Baker of Clinton, MD; Best friends: Sandy Brown, DeAnn Stanton of Chesilhurst, NJ, Dora Butler of Atco, NJ & Eva T. Moore of Georgia and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
