Dorothy Ruth Freeland of Pleasantville, NJ peacefully went home to be with the Lord on April 8, 2020. Dorothy (also affectionately known as “Midge”) was born December 17, 1931 in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Ollie B. and John Henry Nelson. Dorothy was educated in the AC School Systems and was a Graduate of the Vocational School where she received her Nursing Degree as an LPN. She worked at the AC Medical Center in the Cardiac Care Unit and later worked at Shore Memorial Hospital in the Dialysis Unit until her retirement in 1993. Dorothy was a founding member of Calvary Baptist Church in Pleasantville, NJ. She later joined Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Pleasantville where she served on the Health and Welfare Board, Vacation Bible School, The Staff Pastor Relations Committee and sang on the choir. She was Past Worthy Matron of Atlantic Chapter No.3, Oziel Grand Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star PHA, Member of Golden Circle of South Jersey Hostess Committee, Mental Health Association of South Jersey and Member of Nurses Association of NJ. She is predeceased by her parents and husband James (Big Jim Foster) Freeland, daughters Sandra Freeland and Toni Lewis. She is survived by her Son James Freeland Jr. (Tracie), Nephew Gregory Reid (Angella), Daughters Alriene Smith, Karlynn Blagrove-Rumala (Dr. Samuel), Tauheedah Abdullah-Muhammad, Dorothy Garlic (Lawrence Jr.), Denise Freeland-Hickman (Lawrence) and Gina Freeland, Brother George (Pete) Nelson, Sister Ollie M. Bryant (Leon), 15 Grandchildren and 14 Great-Grandchildren, as well as a host of Nieces, Nephews, In-Laws and many wonderful Friends. She will truly be missed by her friends and family. Words cannot express the love and adoration we will carry for her for the rest of our lives. Due to the current virus pandemic, services will be private.
