Raymond Donte’ Speller, known as “Man” to his family and “Black” to his friends, was called from labor to his eternal rest on Friday, February 21, 2020 after a lengthy illness. Raymond was born on June 20, 1973, the youngest of two sons to Agnes E. Speller (deceased). At an early age, James Ferrell entered his life as a surrogate father and remained until Raymond’s death. Raymond was born in Philadelphia, PA and was raised in Chesilhurst, NJ where he was educated in the Winslow Township public school system. He took advantage of his many occupational opportunities until his illness. He accepted Christ in 2009 and was baptized at First Baptist Church, Chesilhurst, NJ, where he was a disciple until his passing. Throughout his childhood and adulthood, he experienced many trials and tribulations, but through them all, he persevered, remained humbled and faithful. Raymond was easy going, fun loving and a family person with an infectious laugh that would have everyone around him laughing as well. He loved playing cards and shooting dice and was always competitive. Also, he was also a big fan of the oldie’s music. He was an avid storyteller and forever the jokester. Everyone who knew Raymond had a moment of “Ray said what”? or “Ray did what”? Raymond leaves to cherish his legacy: his son Darrell Durr, who proudly serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.; his surrogate children, Teka Austin “Lil Princess”, Josh Austin and De’Vaughn Darby; his brothers Robert Speller (Shawn), Mikeal Anderson, Corey Bradley and James “Jimmy” Ferrell, Jr.; his father James Ferrell, Sr. (Beatrice) and his fiancé of 25 years Denise Austin; a special friend Marguerette Jones, along with a numerous amount aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
