Please share a memory of Marjorie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marjorie Denise Gadson was born on Friday, June 5, 1953 to Edwin and Helen Johnson in Philadelphia, PA. As a small child, Margie was described as beautiful, sweet and always very well-dressed. Throughout her early education in Philadelphia Public Schools, she consistently made good grades, even when teachers commented that she was a "talker" in class. In middle school, Margie was a candy girl, selling candy and snacks to her fellow classmates, She continued her schooling to receive a high school diploma from West Philadelphia High School. In her early teenage years, Marjorie met Odis F. Gadson at a social gathering and had immediate connection. The two of them married on December 11, 1971 and reared 4 children through their 48 year union. She was also compared to "Claire Huxtable" because of her beauty, intelligence, whit and stern-but-fun-parenting style. Her supportive and nurturing nature extended past her biological children and she served as a "bonus" mother to many people she encountered through the years. As a wife, she is a example of loyalty, patience and unconditional love. Marjorie maintained a number of successful career paths to help support her family. She held positions in manufacturing, education, retail, tax preparation and ultimately served as Director at the Arc Gloucester where she managed multiple assistant living apartments for special need adults. In 2016, she was awarded Supervisor of the Year and ultimately retired in May of 2019, after 23 years of service. Marjorie attended St. Matthews Baptist Church for many years and loved to attend the women's retreat for spiritual edification and growth. Her fondest moments were spending time with family and friends and most of all- shopping for her 6 grandchildren who are the highlight of her life. The warmth, generosity and selflessness of Marjorie stole her heart of any person she encountered. She never met a stranger and always remained welcoming, encouraging and helpful to others. Her spirit and beauty was mesmerizing and everyone enjoyed being around her Marjorie is proceeded in death by Edwin Johnson (father), Helen Johnson (mother), Billy Brown (brother), Diane Fountain (sister), Shonda Gadson (daughter), and Odetta Gadson (daughter). She survived by her husband Odis F.
