David P. Petty

David Preston Petty, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at Jefferson (Kennedy) Hospital, Washington Twp., NJ. He was born on September 28, 1939 to the late Henry and Elizabeth (Roberson) Petty.

He was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Halifax, Virginia at a young age. He migrated to New York City, NY and became a member of New Mount Zion Baptist Church where he became an usher. Years later, David moved to Williamstown, NJ where he attended Faith Temple Baptist Church and served as a Deacon.

He was educated in the Halifax County school system. He then moved to New York City, NY in 1960 where he worked as a lubricate oil man in a city yellow cab base. He also worked in LaGuardia Airport as a skycap. He was a Security Guard with F.J.C. Security in Van Cortlandt Reservoir. After David retired, he began enjoying his lifelong hobbies, gardening, fishing and cooking.

On May 24, 2008, he married Joan Harris.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ernest, Eugene, James Lloyd and Harvey; two sisters. Ruby and Margaret.

He leaves to mourn, his wife Joan; his only daughter, Margaret Petty; two grandsons, Robert Petty and David Hall; one granddaughter, Mary Petty; one great grandson, Di’oivyon Petty; two godsons, Kenny and Tyrone Roberts; one sister, Signora Logan (Andy); one sister-in-law, Bessie Moore; five step-children, Belinda, Sabrina, Daphney, Carolyn and Dwayne. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
