Obituary of William Oliver Styles

WILLIAM O. STYLES (Bill), departed this life on October 4, 2017. Bill was born on September 21, 1950, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Reid O. and Margaret Davis Styles of Tabernacle, New Jersey.

Bill attended Tabernacle Elementary School and later Lenape Regional High School where he graduated in 1966. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served one tour of duty in the Vietnam War.

Upon returning from the war, following his discharge from the Army, he settled in south Jersey where he lived until he became ill and entered hospice care.

An accomplished guitarist, Bill was a member of many bands through the years and performed at various venues throughout southern New Jersey. He was also an avid movie watcher and was especially fond of science fiction and western-themed movies.  

He was a member of Jacob’s Chapel AME Church and served on the usher board. 

He was married to Helene German, and from that union a son, Christopher, was born. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Reid O. Styles; his mother, Margaret D. Styles; and four step-sisters, Reida, Florence, Lula, and Wynona. Bill leaves to mourn:  his son, Christopher of Philadelphia, PA; brothers, Reid of Burlington, NJ, Harry (Joyce) of Port Orange, FL, and Dennis (Frances) of Tabernacle, NJ; nieces, Courtney S. Mompoint (Robert) of Newport News, VA, and Denise S. Sills (Shawn) of San Antono, TX; nephews, Brian Styles (Georgiana) of Orange, NJ, and Matthew Styles (Monica) of Bethlehem, PA; and a host great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
