Obituary of Ruth Myrl Gordon

Ruth Shipp Gordon was born on February 7, 1926,  in Sylvester, Georgia, to the late Otto and Annie B. (Wood) Shipp.  The last root of this Shipp Family Tree, she  departed this life peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at home with her family.

 

Ruth relocated to Atlantic City, New Jersey in the late 1950s.  She was formerly employed at Consolidated Laundry in Atlantic City until their closing and her retirement.  She later worked for Atlantic Human Resources as a foster grandparent at the Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary School Complex in Atlantic City.

 

Ruth was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City, where she served in various ministries, but most notably with the Senior Usher Board for many years.  She had also been a part of the South Jersey Ushers Fellowship.

 

She is survived by her son, James Edward Shipp (Patricia) of Sylvester, Georgia, her daughter, Mary Ringgold of Atlantic City, and her son, Nathaniel Gordon (Tammy) of Sylvester, Georgia; a niece, Lois Burroughs of Absecon, New Jersey; her best friend, Wilhelmina Campbell of Atlantic City; five grandchildren, Tina Reaves (Stadi), Deatra Mann, James Eldric Shipp, Tasha Lowe (Glenn) and Jay Edward Shipp (Lyschell); nine great grandchildren, Bahadour “B.A.” Ali, Danajah Ringgold, David Reaves, Tiana Reaves, Glenn Lowe, Kirvan Davis, Jamara Hall, James Emory Shipp, and J’aniya Shipp; and a host of other family and friends.
