Obituary of Paula M Harris

On Sunday, January 31, 2016, Paula M. Harris was called home to forever be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Paula was born on April 11, 1947 to Rowland and Juanita Harris in Camden, New Jersey. She matriculated through the Camden school system and graduated from Camden High School in 1965. After graduating Paula began her career at Bell telephone. She spent the next 36 years working in various departments at Bell until she retired in 2001. Paula loved the Lord. She was an active member of Mt. Zion AME Church, Riverton, NJ. She enjoyed working in her church and loved her church family. She was of the part of the Alice Taylor Missionary Society, Lay organization, an YPD director, member of the Board of Christian Education, a Sunday School Teacher, a Pastor’s aide and a member of the Steward Board. Paula also worked to help with the daily upkeep of the church. Paula had a passion for crocheting. She used her talents to make warm and beautiful blankets for family and friends. She would also make clothing, booties/slippers, hats and many other things for family and friends. She continued in her service by providing shawls for Mt. Zion to help keep members and visitors warm. She crocheted hats for babies in the hospital. She made shawls for the Gift of Life project known as “Wrapped in Love.” It provided shawls for every family that donated their loved ones organs. When Paula was not shopping, spending time with her family and being a photographer, Paula loved to travel. She especially enjoyed cruising. She disembarked over 15 times. She enjoyed experiencing other cultures and the various cuisines cruising offered. She would document her experiences by collecting mugs, bags and taking pictures from the places she visited. She particularly enjoyed taking pictures of the sunrise and the sunset. Paula leaves behind to cherish her memory two loving children Carla Harris and John T. Harris (Pricilla); four grandchildren John T. Harris Jr., Ja’Markis McGee, Morgan and Lawrence Martin. She also leaves behind her loving mother Juanita Harris. Her father Rowland Harris preceded her in death. She leaves behind two brothers Dennis Harris (Denise) and Phillip Harris. Her brother Rowland Harris Jr. preceded her in death. She leaves behind her loving sister Cheryl Davis, two adoring nieces Kiera N. Buchanan (Elliott) and Karen McDougal (Anthony), one great nephew, Myles Buchanan and a great niece Kyla McDougal, and a host of other family, friends and neighbors.
