NATHAN W. JONES was born on February 16, 1919 to the late Howard T. and Elizabeth Jones of East Riverton, NJ. He made his journey to glory on September 29, 2015. Nate as he was affectionately known to everyone, attended the Riverton Public School System and graduated from Palmyra High School in 1939. He enlisted in the Army in 1940 and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was given the following medals: M1 Rifle MKM 159 Sharpshooter, Good Conduct Medal, Lapel Button and the Victory Medal. He was given The American Defense Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, The European-African-Middle and Eastern Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon and The Philippine Liberation Ribbon for WWII. Nate was employed by The Ajax Refrigeration Company, Philadelphia, PA and The Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital, Marlboro Township, NJ. He liked to go fishing, hunting, bowling, and working in the garden. He also loved to go on cruises and work at the Election Polls in Riverton. Brother Jones was a member of Shekinah Lodge #32, PHA in Riverside, NJ since 1949. As a member for 65 years, he served as treasurer for 40 years. Nate was also a member of the Holy Royal Arch Masons and the Heroines of Jericho. He attained the position of General Conference Past Grand Worthy Joshua, USA and Bahamas, Inc. Brother Jones was a faithful member of Mt. Zion A.M.E Church, Riverton, NJ. He served as steward for many years and later served as Pastor’s Steward for over 20 years. As a member of the Federation of Men, Brother Jones would faithfully prepare the food for the Men’s Breakfast every 2nd Sunday morning which was held here at Mt. Zion. Brother Jones met and married Helen M. Person on October 22, 1956. They have been married 59 years and from their union came 2 daughters, Christine LenNa and Carol Lynn. Brother Jones leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Helen; 4 children, Minister Cynthia (Rev. Ronald) Tucker, Christine (Julian) Williams, Carol Bass, and W. Spencer Person, Jr.; 10 grand-children: Jesse, Regina, Cory (Stacey), Robert, Janine, Wesley, Jasmine, Nicole, Tariq and Chyanne; 8 great grand-children; his brother Thomas “Shorty”, and sister-in-law Doris Conner of Las Vegas, NV; 2 nieces, Sherry Connor {deceased} and Connie (Rev. Keith) Williams; God Daughters Wanda Houston and Joy Houston-Rhoades, and host of family and friends.
