Alexander McCollum Sr. was born February 17, 1938 in Philadelphia Pa to the late Cora (McAllister) McCollum and Louis A. McCollum. He has two brothers Otis and Louis, two sisters Delois Faulkner and Carol McCollum, Shelly Winfield and Laverne Dwight who all reside in Philadelphia. Alex met Jean Ramona Winfield when they were in high school. They were high school sweethearts and married on June 26, 1958. From this union they have three children Alex, Jr., Robynne and Anthony. Alexander affectionately known as "Bay" was educated in the Philadelphia public school system. He enrolled in the Randolph Skills Center and received a certificate as a machinist where he worked for forty years. Alex retired from the Budd company in 2005. Alex was a gifted machinist and could fix just about anything. He also a certified lock smith. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and electronics. He loved music, movies and he had a huge collection of DVD's and CD"s. Family was most important to him. He was a protector as well as a provider. Family outings, vacations and holidays were very important to him. He loved people and loved to talk. Jean moved to Marlton New Jersey in 1988. He and Jean found St. John's UMC after meeting and making friends with Elwood Murray who invited them to service. Later he accepted Christ. Alex has been a faithful member ever since being under the spiritual leadership of Pastor Calvin Woods and then Dr. Stafford Miller. He once sang with the Hearts of Joy Choir and was a member of the Fisher's of Men. Alex attended church faithfully until his illness prevented him from attending. Alex truly loved St. John's Church and fondly spoke of kindness and generosity of the members who faithfully visited him during his hospital stays. He also faithfully read his bible everyday with prayer. Bay entered into eternal rest on Monday October 6, 2014. Our beloved Lord bestowed his mercy on him and took him home to his eternal resting place.. His memory will be cherished and celebrated by his loving and devoted wife Jean; sons, Alex, Jr. and Anthony; daughter Robynne and two daughters-in-law, Criscilla (Grant ), Shanica (Griffin); five sisters-in-law, Laverne (Dwight). Romaine (Winfield), Shelly (Winfield), Mary McCollum, Bertha McCollum; one brother-in-law;Lawton Winfield; three grandchildren, Nathaniel, Adrienne and Isabella-Alexis. A host of nephews, cousins, nieces, friends and special best friend Tyrone Macey, friends and members of Marlton Senior Club.
