Obituary of Edgar Shaffer, Jr.

Edgar Shaffer, Jr. was born August 28, 1940 to Retha Hicks Shaffer and the late Deacon Edgar Shaffer, Sr. Edgar Abruptly departed this life on Monday September 29, 2014. Edgar, affectionately called, "Baby Edgar" by his family, grew up in Beverly, NJ. During his childhood years, his family moved to Burlington, NJ. He attended the Burlington City School System and graduated from Burlington City High School. Upon graduation, Edgar enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged in 1963. He joined the New Jersey Department of Corrections as a senior Corrrection Officer and worked many years at the Bordentown Reformatory ( now Wagner Correctional Facility). Upon leaving corrections, she served as security officer for Jefferson Ward/Bradlees warehouse in Burlington Township and later joined the Burlington Coat Factory as Security Manager. He retired from the Burlington Coat Factory after twenty years of service. Edgar attending the Mens' Fellowships with his son Elder Edgar Shaffer III. It was during that time, he accepted the Lord as his personal Savior several years ago. Edgar loved football and always looked forward to football season. He was an avid Eagles fan. He leaves to cherish his memory; his loving mother Retha Shaffer; five children, Edgar Shaffer III (Cheryl); Candice Smith (Herbert); Tiffany Riddick ( George); Kim Forte (William); Kevin Williams ( Maxine); one brother, Lamont Shaffer; two sisters, Patty S. Friend (Dwight); Gail S. Bailey (Kevin); One aunt Margaret Morris; fourteen grandchildren, three great grand children, a special friend Margaret Weld, her daughter Michelle Weld and family and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
